Health, Safety and Environmental Assistant
ASME Engineering Ltd; a well respected Engineering company established for over 30 years are on the lookout for a Health, Safety and Environmental Assistant to join on a Temp to Perm basis. This role has become available due to the growth and success of this organization and it offers ample progression opportunities to the right individual.
As a Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) Assistant your main purpose would be to assist the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager and to take care of day to day tasks. ASME Engineering Ltd are a highly audited company and therefore regular document control and record keeping and maintenance is of absolute essential.
An ASME Engineering HS&E Assistant is someone who is able to effectively manage their workload and prioritize essential time constraint tasks.
Prospected candidates will be expected to have a good understanding of Health and Safety implications and legislation relating to the construction and installation of Architectural and Structural Steel. A strong HS&E background will ensure the provision of practical and sound strategic advice which is integrated with and supportive of business objectives and direction. Ambition to raise the level of safety and environmental performance for employers, reduce injuries, lower accident frequency rates dedicated to lowering risks.
Duties include:
Maintain current achieved UKAS OHSAS 18001 Accreditation
Maintain current achieved UKAS ISO 14001 Accreditation
Maintain CHAS, Safe-contractor, and Construction Line.
Maintain Achilles Accreditation for Link up (Rail), UVDB Verify (Utilities) and Building Confidence (general building work).
Maintain SSiP and Sustainability Charter Gold Status with the BCSA
Maintain FORS Silver Accreditation
In maintaining the above; prepare for the audits and actively contribute as instructed to ensure continued achievement
Carry out Monthly auditing on the Safety Management Systems in accordance with UKAS requirements.
Review and Update the Company Health, Safety & Environmental Policy and Manual, including bringing new ideas regarding Policies & Procedures.
Liaise with the H.S.E. Statutory bodies, Insurance Companies and Company personnel as required
Prepare, develop and review task specific risk assessments, Method Statements and Lift Plans
Production of detailed annual HSE Reports to present to the board during Management Review meetings, including accident statistics.
Carry out detailed accident reports
Produce Monthly SHE Bulletins/Alerts and communicate to staff
Carry out SHE Site audits/inspections, and produce a Monthly SHE Performance League Tables
Chair regular SHE Meetings with clients and sub-contractors
Check compliance with the Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Regulations and created a Safe Working Practice empowering fellow employees to monitor their own level of compliance
Formulate company procedures, method statements and working practices for associated practices such as Working at Height and Lifting Operations
Manage the Document Control Procedure for all HS&E procedures across the company
Allocate work to others.

Specific Duties:
- COSHH Assessments
- Carry out site safety inspections & Workshop safety inspections
- Check Site and workshop safety folders, ensuring managers conduct Tool Box Talks
- Conduct competency assessments
- Accident / Incident investigations
- Work with Directors on ISO 18001; 14001, ensuring we fulfil the requirements and manage the audits with the HS&E Manager. (Therefore I am not listing all the duties within this as the candidate should know)
- Complete the Health, Safety & Environmental aspects of Pre-Qualification Questionnaires we get from our clients; site the Achilles and SSiP audit with me regarding HS&E
- Compile Operation & Maintenance manuals for all Jobs (The HS&E aspects)
- Audit the Companies HS&E Administration files and practices to ensure compliance to the companies IMS; raising NCR’s and alerting the HS&E Manager of any issues/breaches
Requirements, abilities:
- must have NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health
- must have an Environmental NEBOSH qualification
- must be prepared to work in workshop and construction site conditions; not afraid to get hands dirty
- eager to learn the construction industry / Steel
- commercial Awareness

- be able to work without close supervision
- be able to handle problems using own initiative but know when to refer matters to a supervisor
